The costs associated with organ transplants vary widely. In 2011, it was estimated that organ transplantation and associated costs range from approximately $300,000 to $1.2 million dollars.
Medical costs include: insurance deductibles and co-pays, pre-operative evaluation and testing, surgery, organ recovery fees, follow-up visits, and medications.
Non-medical costs include: travel expenses to and from the transplant center numerous times, food, lodging, and lost income from inability to work (both patient and family members).
